In Shipping break bulk cargo or general cargo is a term that can be described as goods that must be loaded individually.  Break bulk continues to hold an advantage in areas where port development has not kept pace with shipping technology. Break-bulk shipping requires relatively minimal shore facilities—a wharf for the ship to tie to, dock workers to assist in unloading, warehouses to store materials for later reloading onto other forms of transport.

Anything from raw materials to finished products can be containerised, and shipped in the same condition in which it was packed. Containers are moved seamlessly between ships, trucks and trains.

When a customer does not have enough goods to accommodate a full container load , we manage this process with our network of reliable consolidators to package this cargo, sharing the cost with other customers. This type of shipment is called Less Container Load (LCL). The consolidator arranges a Full Container Load  (FCL) with a main shipping carrier.  The freight forwarder sorts out these goods at final destination, meant for consignees at different points. These services are reliable, and very cost effective for smaller loads. Frequency on these services are weekly and if the demand is greater , this can be as often as 3 times a week.

Railway services are growing exponentially in speed and efficiency serving to connect major cargo routes from customer to port facilities. The movement of bulk commodities becomes more cost effective with railway services due to the fact that one locomotive is able to transport many wagons over vast distances.

Refrigerated Cargo (Reefer) is a major requirement in the industry, and is precisely monitored and for good reason. Refrigerated cargo is a vital requirement globally for various temperature controlled commodities. By utilising the multimodal refrigerated solutions, this allows customers piece of mind to move their commodities from door to door at a constant temperature.

The slightest miscalculation in temperature control will come at significant cost to the customer. We work closely with many reefer clients, providing them, with accurate logistical solutions.

Land and Sea Shippings’ ability to show results in this specilaised trade, is vastly becoming recognised in Southern Africa, amongst some of our most efficient exporters. Our precise planning allows customer peace of mind through our stringent management processes on all modes of transport.

Warehousing & Distribution

A warehouse is a commercial building for storage of goods. It is very often that customers do not have the capacity or the facility to store their cargo, and have a great requirement for secure storage and distribution facilities. Stored goods can include any raw materials, packing materials, spare parts, components, or finished goods associated with agriculture, manufacturing and production. Location of a storage facility is key to ensure accurate costs, versus quick reliable distribution networks covering chosen regions. Every type of commodity has a different requirement for handling, packing and warehousing. We look at all variables and apply the correct warehouse to the correct commodity to suit the route of transport.
